In Forests Eternal
Bergtagen
Burning Our souls entwined Sealed The fates wreathed and interlaced Flying Feel the weight of the skyline Falling As the sky turns to black Forged within endings We grow in nothingness Beside this oak I feel no more Wrapped in garlands of Jute and branches Hold me close And don't let go A dying embrace In forests eternal

Oak Horizon
Bergtagen
Under moonlight Left unspoken Oak horizon Vast, uncharted Empty, nowhere Is this cold place Clutching closer Worthless, nothing Son of the stars Reach up to me Let me be one With your kingdom Feel this cold among the graves Hold this warmth in your heart

You Were But A Ghost In My Arms (Agalloch Cover)
Bergtagen
Like snowfall, you cry a silent storm Your tears paint rivers on this oaken wall... Amber nectar, misery ichor ...cascading in streams of hallowed form For each stain, a forsaken shadow You are the lugubrious spirit Etched in the oak of wonder You are the sullen voice and silent storm Each night I lay awakened by her shivering silent voice from the shapes in the corridor walls. It pierces the solitude like that of a distant scream In the pitch-black forest of my delusion... With each passing day, a deeper grave... "Why did you leave me to die?" "Why did you abandon me?" "Why did you walk away and leave me bitterly yearning?" Her haunting, contorted despair was etched into the wood's grain Though fire rages within me, no fire burns fiercer than her desire The shape whispers my name... I damn this oak! I damn her sorrow! I damn these oaken corridors that bear the ghosts of those I've thrown away! Though tempted I am to caress her texture divine and taste her pain sweet, sweet like brandy wine; I must burn these halls, these corridors and silence her shrill, tormenting voice ...forever... Like snowfall, you cried a silent storm No tears stain this dust in my hands But from this ashen gray, her voice still Whispers my name... You were the lugubrious spirit Who haunted the oak of wonder You were the geist that warmed this frozen silent storm You were but a ghost in my arms

Initially founded in 2006, Bergtagen was songwriter and musician Jon Rosenthal's emotive, atmospheric dark metal outlet. Fueled by teenage angst and an obsession with artists like Agalloch, Empyrium, and Ulver, Bergtagen released an amateur demo later that year, and, with the help of a few friends along the way, Bergtagen quickly amassed a vast arsenal of songs before disbanding in 2008. Now lost to the ages, only a fraction of this old material survived in old Guitar Pro files and in Rosenthal's own memory.

In a fit of nostalgia, Rosenthal revived Bergtagen with his bandmate in other projects (drummer and acoustic guitarist Anthony W. of Stellar Descent, Boreal, Starless Domain et al) in late 2025, recording more matured versions of the only two songs that survived this 20 year slumber, plus a partially reimagined cover of Agalloch's "You Were But A Ghost In My Arms," as the "In Forests Eternal" EP. Mixed and mastered by Spenser Morris (who has also produced material by Panopticon and more) and featuring atmospheric art by Rotting Reign, Bergtagen has truly been brought to life once more.

Rosenthal and W. have begun composing and recording more Bergtagen material that will surface over the next few years. We want to thank everyone who was in the band along the way - Shin Jung Woo, Mike Nelson, John Sharpe, Mike Fioretti, John Becker, and Andrew Scherer - as the survival of this material would not have been possible without the memories we shared together all those years ago.

"In Forests Eternal" releases February 6th, 2026, via Nebulae Artifacta, with a tape edition to follow Spring 2026 by Nebulae Artifacta and Realm and Ritual.
