Tag relationships in Explore

Our tags have become self-aware
Apr 11, 2026 by Chris

Our database now has an understanding of the relationships between tags! When you filter by a tag through https://ampwall.com/explore (type the tag name into the box and you’ll see matching tags appear above the input field — click one of those) if the tag has any relationships with others in our system, you’ll see them appear as suggestions below.

It’s smart. It knows the difference between “hardcore” and “happy hardcore”. It knows that “noise” and “noise rock” might have a shared word but they aren’t directly related. If you suggest “black metal” it will recommend some regional scenes and once you select one regional scene it will start recommending others more eagerly.

Tag relationships are reviewed automatically every few days. A tag needs to appear a few times in the system before it’s linked and even then not every tag is eligible for recommendations. But it should be pretty accurate and thorough.

There are some gaps I want to fill. There’s also a lot of cool stuff we can do with this visually. The mobile app also doesn’t have this capability yet but it will soon.

Enjoy!
