Formed in 2013, Agony by Default is a solo/studio project from Wyoming-based musician/engineer Matthew “Axl” Brammer (Six Below Zero, Underrot, Breath of Sindragosa, Silence Before the Storm, Days Long Gone, and more).

AbD originally began as a raw, melodic deathgrind/deathcore project in 2013, but changed gears after a single demo/EP and became predominantly known for its unique blend of melodic and blackened death metal with a wide variety of influences. By 2020, however, Agony by Default had fully shifted to melodic black metal and finally found its identity.

“For All the Rest of Time”, the title track from the album, was featured on the Wyoming Arts Council’s 2021 Wyoming Road Trip Playlist.
