One year anniversary of Spectrum
One year anniversary of Spectrum!
Spectrum released January 3, 2025, making today the one year birthday of the album.
I just wanted to send a quick thanks to everyone who made the album a success.
When I (@Steve Wiener), Chris, Eva, and Erik (and all the incredible guest contributors— Ember, Ася, Jon, Paul, @Alex Loach) finished the album, I originally thought it would just be a digital release. I thought it was possibly too stylistically broad (aka scatterbrained) to appeal to most folks. I thought most metal-leaning people would find tracks like Yellow too silly, cheery, and dumb (all things I personally find to be positive traits, but nonetheless possibly unappealing to the intended audience).
Then Negative Wingspan agreed to take a chance on releasing it on cassette.
Then @Bölverk Collective offered to release it on vinyl.
Then an astonishing number of reviewers covered the album.
Then positive review after positive review started streaming in.
Then the cassettes sold out ON release day.
Then the vinyls sold out.
Then @Bölverk Collective released it on CD and did a second pressing of the vinyl.
Then the CDs sold out.
Then it landed on a slew of AOTY / best of 2025 lists.
What I thought would go down as an obscure, digital-only release exceeded all of my wildest expectations.
I'm beyond touched and honored that Spectrum has meaningfully connected with so many people.
Thank you.
