Cold in Berlin
The witch went crazy on me one day turned the whole sky black Not a word I’d sing or say would ever make her change it back And while the witch was I played at practicing those skills I lack And the madness comes and the madness comes and the madness comes with the dawn And the madness comes and the madness comes and the madness comes for us all The world went crazy on me one day everybody turned their back Not a word I write or pray would ever make them come back And as my heart was away a played at papering over the cracks And the madness comes and the madness comes and the madness comes with the dawn And the madness comes and the madness comes and the madness comes for us all The madness grows The witch is huge like mountain The witch is wild like sea The witch is supernatural All claws and scales and teeth And we are damned Her love is huge like mountain Her rage is wild like sea Her spell is supernatural All claws and scales and teeth The witch is huge like mountain The witch is wild like sea The witch is supernatural All claws and scales and teeth

‘Translators for our imploding society’ was how Artrocker described CiB’s debut ‘Give Me Walls’. Awarding it album of the month and later an album of the year. Since it’s release the band watched London burn in the 2011 riots while writing and rehearsing their follow up in the basement of a church in Rotherhithe.

Bidding a found farewell to the East London Post-Punk scene CiB have imbibed the best of the 1980s 'Our Band Could Be Your Life' albums from the fledgling alternative scene. Swans, Shellac and Sonic Youth from the US. And from the UK the chorus, reverb and delay pedals of Bauhaus, Joy Division and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Showcasing an incredible vocal range vocalist and lyricist Maya broods, purrs and screams at the state of the world and her place in it. From the harshest growl to the softest coo in the space of a chorus, one song in a higher register, the next in a lower one. We wonder who they are going to compare her to now?

The drums remain as solid as ever with pounding overdubs locking tight to future classic basslines. But it's the scale of the sound that announces itself. Haunting vocals over massive drums. Driving bass versus eerie guitar lines. If 'Give Me Walls' was dark and spiky, 'And Yet' promises to be darker, heavier, slower, faster, better.

Cold in Berlin broke of out the east London scene to play Offset festival, tour in Europe and share stages with bands as diverse as The Chapman Family, Diary of Dreams and Mater Susperia Vision. Still skint, heart broken and living on the fringes of society and acceptance, it is clear that alternative cultures romantic vision of DIY purity is no longer an option. And Yet…
