Tales of Treachery is the debut album by one-hobbit black metal artist, Lammoth. Being a hobbit is ultimately about maximizing one’s comfort, so Tales of Treachery embraces the unlikely comforts found in black metal. Fierce, evil riffs, contrasted by cozy atmospheric passages, laced with nostalgic video game-like synths, paint a picture of treacherous tales being told around a warm hobbit fireplace. Gather around, pack your pipe, and bask in the Brandywine blasphemy.

When I first heard the term "hobbit black metal" I expected something cozier, more diminutive and scrappy. Lammoth wrecked my expectations, as Tales of Treachery is a triumphant, chunky, and majestic album. The production is rich and heavy, and the songwriting and riff craftwork are impeccable. The songs are chock full of engaging and catchy twists and turns. It's a refreshing and well-crafted sound that is also evocative of bands like Borknagar at their most majestic & melodic and Emperor at their most malevolent & intense.
