After a much unexpectedly well received debut EP, Jude Kerr felt like he needed to follow Caer Sgàil up with a new EP that takes the orchestral ambient to a different level. But that is not this EP, after demoing a lot of tracks he found that it didn’t feel as exciting as when he first did it and so he decided to leave the demoing and focus on other ventures with AKMedia and aeradio along with him starting work on a solo album.

By September 2025, he had a new DAW and had already had experience now making stuff in it although it wasn’t until this point he'd try to go back to demoing Caer Sgàil where he’d fine more of a playground to experiment Caer Sgàil with VST plugins along with being able to do more complex things. During this time he was quite ill and had low points before this but felt quite confident diving back into the demo stages so he’d start creating the tracks and very quickly had around three tracks fully finished along with an EP name that he had in mind since the release of It’s The People We Choose. Along with that Jude kept getting ideas even after so he ended up managing to record and finish the EP within two days.

Bringing it altogether it brings a whole different vibe switch to Caer Sgàil, having a very Middle Eastern themed intro track that is nowhere near ambient with other tracks exploring more light orchestral instruments while tending to keep the more traditional ambient to it. Other tracks experiment with more elements, there’s tracks here that experiment more with guitars, pianos, drums and textures that bring the tracks together.

All in all, “Through Mountains and Valleys They All Cry” is a complete different direction for Caer Sgàil which showcases that Jude is able to switch between themes without needing to stick to one singular one.
