"In 2025, avant-garde black metal is nearly synonymous with dissonance. Acts like Blut Aus Nord and Imperial Triumphant assert that avant-garde black metal must draw from jazz and revel in darkness. It is, seemingly by default, hurdy-gurdy and esoteric. However, Steven Wiener from Am I In Trouble? asserts that this view is narrow-minded, though he’ll say it in kinder terms. His debut record under this moniker, Spectrum, is a revival of avant-garde black metal’s colorful side.- Colin Dempsey, Invisible Oranges (www.invisibleoranges.com/am-i-in-trouble-spectrum/)

Spectrum is the debut album by Am I in Trouble?, an erratic journey through colorful black corners of metal.

A love-letter to the eclecticism and experimentation displayed in the early-to-mid 2000s avantgarde black metal explosion.

Deeply influenced by the works of artists active during this time, however, the goal was not to recreate and imitate these bands—but rather, to extract elements from their approaches to creation—and in doing so, develop something new— filtered through the unique vision of multi-instrumentalist Steve Wiener.

Spectrum is a deliberately disparate, vivid and varied musical journey.
